Likewise, he has represented clients in matters concerning the IRS, secured exemptions for nonprofits, and represented New York City in tax and employee benefits law. Earlier, Mr. Kaplan was a consulting special tax counsel to the New York City Law Department. There, he provided counsel on real estate projects and financing in excess of tens of billions of dollars and filed claims for refunds of social security taxes that secured over $750 million. He also served of counsel at Ashinoff, Ross & Goldman, Siller Wilk, Spector and Scher & Feldman; partner at Gordon & Kaplan; tax partner at Demov, Morris & Hammerling; and tax associate at Stroock, Stroock & Lavan and Cahill Gordon & Reindel. Mr. Kaplan was listed in Super Lawyers and has written articles on taxation and estate law, as well as presented at lectures and panel talks. He received a BA in political science and government, cum laude, at Yale College. He then earned a JD from Columbia Law School and an LLM in taxation from New York University. Outside of his primary career, he is an avid historian and walking tour guide in New York City and is the host of the annual July 4th Revolutionary Heroes tour via the Fraunces Tavern Museum. Here, he attended the street co-naming of West 46th Street as Frances Perkins Place in 2022. Interested in America’s lesser-known heroes, Mr. Kaplan has written on figures from history and, for his contributions, was bestowed with a Coin of Excellence from the U.S. Army’s Regimental Association. Looking forward, he aspires to expand the scope of his career. Additionally, he hopes to achieve widespread recognition for his historical writings.
