Much of his harvested crops are utilized for human consumption and for feeding local cattle and other livestock. As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Burmeister pursued a formal education at Fort Hays State University in Northwestern Kansas, where he achieved a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and agriculture in 1960. In addition, he also completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Kansas in 1961. Shortly after completing his collegiate studies, Mr. Burmeister began volunteering with the American Peace Corps in Ludhiana, India, where he remained until 1963. He subsequently returned home to his farm and enlisted with the Kansas Army (United States) National Guard, serving honorably until 1969. In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Burmeister has participated as a dedicated educator, public speaker and agriculturist in his local community. Over the course of his career, he has maintained membership with several industry-related organizations, including The Menninger Foundation, Environmental Action, Ocean Conservancy, Nature Conservancy, the Rainforest Alliance and the National Audubon Society. Furthermore, as an advocate for clean energy solutions and nature preservation, Mr. Burmeister remains a life member of the Kansas State Historical Society, the American Solar Energy Society and the National Wildlife Federation. To commemorate his accomplishments in the field, Mr. Burmeister was presented with the Annual Bankers Award for soil conservation by the banks of Barton County, Kansas, in 1989. To wit, he is especially proud to have taught freshman and sophomore Sunday school classes beginning in 1964, which helped him grow and mature both personally and professionally. Mr. Burmeister hopes to be remembered for his passionate advocacy in environmental health issues and as a responsible steward of the land. Since 1952, Paul Frederick Burmeister has diligently tended the land as a farmer. As the owner of Paul Burmeister Farm in Claflin, Kansas, he oversees 800 acres of farmland, where he plants and produces winter wheat, grain sorghum, spring oats, smooth bromegrass and sweet clover seeds.
