KELLY Drawing upon a bachelor’s degree in music education from Jackson State University and a master’s degree equivalent in music therapy from Duquesne University, Adrianne D. Kelly has excelled in the music education sector for over 40 years. Since 2018, she has served as a guest artist, lecturer and supervisor of music student teachers at Carnegie Mellon University. Additionally, since 2016, she has served as an adjunct faculty member and supervisor of music student teachers at Duquesne University. Earlier in her career, Ms. Kelly was a general music specialist for Pittsburgh Public Schools between 1982 and 2015. Featured on National Public Radio and the recipient of a Proclamation from the City of Pittsburgh in 2015, Ms. Kelly has been invited on panel discussions at conferences through the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association. Among her many career highlights, she is especially gratified to have enhanced the lives of students in Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas. She notes that among her biggest accomplishments was when her students were invited to sing a three-part song alongside the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. She had done more than 15 performances within a three-week period with her elementary students. Joanne Kraft received a BA in mathematics from Houghton College in 1980 andwent on to serve the Springfield School District in Springfield, Vermont, as a mathematics teacher for sixth through eighth grade students at Riverside Middle School. Remaining in this capacity for one year, she returned to her educational duties and taught again from 1986 until her retirement in 2020. During this time, she also completed a master’s degree at Antioch University in 1988 and continues to undertake graduate level coursework to maintain her teaching license. Notably, in 1987, Ms. Kraft – alongside other mathematics teachers – introduced and implemented the MathCounts program to students at Riverside Middle School as an after-school enrichment option. Even after her retirement, the MathCounts program continued to aid mathematics students in problem solving and affords these students opportunities to compete in regional, state and national competitions. In her post-retirement years, Ms. Kraft continues to do substitute teaching and tutoring, as well as working with her local chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. She attributes much of her success to her supportive relationships with her colleagues over the decades, as they often collaborated to achieve student success. JOANNE KRAFT
