Likewise, Dr. Guth was the inaugural supporter of the endowed chair in complementary and integrative medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. As a testament to her success, Dr. Guth was elected president of the California Society of Anesthesiologists from 1982 to 1983 and president of the Wake Forest Medical Alumni Association from 2006 to 2007. Both organizations recognized her excellent leadership with their Distinguished Service Awards in 2006 and 2010, respectively. The Wake Forest University Deacon Club bestowed upon her the 2010 Deacon Club Member of the Year Award and, in 2021, she was awarded memberships in the International Leadership Circle and the Hall of Fame Selection Committee. In 2022, the newWake Forest Women’s Basketball Clubhouse was named in her honor. Previously, the university applied her name to the women’s wing of the Haddock Golf House of the on-campus Arnold Palmer Practice Complex. Celebrating over 40 years of experience in the fields of integrative medicine and anesthesiology, Dr. Caryl J. Guth first developed an interest in the medical field to help others and serve as a paradigm of excellence for aspiring women who wish to enter health care. She earned an AA from Mars Hill College before enrolling at Wake Forest University, receiving a BS in 1957 and an MD in 1962. Following these accomplishments, Dr. Guth completed an internship in medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center and a residency in anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She then served as an anesthesiology instructor at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 1965. Throughout her career, Dr. Guth served the Mills-Peninsula Health Systems in Burlingame, California, where she was appointed to several administrative and executive-level roles, including two terms on the board of Mills Hospital and the Mills-Peninsula Medical Center. She also helped found the Center for Integrative Medicine at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in WinstonSalem, North Carolina, which focuses on wellness DR. CARYL J.
