Notably, Dr. Holmes holds several certifications, including nurse executive, evidence-based practice, nursing professional development, health care simulation and as a health care quality professional. In service to her profession, she has contributed as a reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Nursing, the International Journal of Africa Nursing Sciences and the International Wound Journal. As a testament to her success, Dr. Holmes received the 2017 Daisy Nurse Leader Award from King Saud Medical City, the 2010 Outstanding Nurse Award from the Kyanna Black Nurses Association, the 2001 Large Research Award from Sigma Theta Tau, and the 1999 Black Student Award from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. Since 2019, Dr. Sandra L. Holmes has excelled as a nursing researcher at King Fahad Specialist HospitalDammam. Drawing upon several years of experience in the health care field, she previously served a myriad of facilities, institutions of higher education and hospitals in clinical, academic and executive level positions. Among these appointments, she has served nationally and internationally at the University of Tennessee Bowld Hospital, Methodist University Hospital, Cabell Huntington Hospital, King Saud Medical City and Jubail General Hospital. Likewise, she was a faculty member at the Ohio University School of Nursing, Kentucky State University School of Nursing and the University of Louisville School of Nursing. Dr. Holmes began her career as a staff nurse in the gastrointestinal and medical-surgical unit at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. She was a nurse specialist in the gastroenterology diagnostic laboratory at the University of Tennessee Bowld Hospital. She also served as an advanced nurse clinician and assistant head nurse while there. Dr. Holmes earned a BS in biology from Mississippi Valley State University and a diploma in nursing from the SANDRA L.
