Recasens attended theUniversity of Salvador Faculty of Medicine, fromwhich she receivedanMDin1991.Shortlythereafter,sheattendedEmoryUniversity as an assistant professor in ophthalmology research. In 1993, Dr. Recasens completed a second internship in internal medicine at the Savannah Memorial Hospital Medical Center, followed by a transitional year internship at Providence Hospital in 1994. Subsequently, she was a resident in ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute/Detroit Medical Center from 1994 to 1997 before completing her medical training as a fellow in medical and surgical retina diseases and surgery at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in 1999. Since completing her medical training, Dr. Recasens has excelled as a vitreoretinal surgeon in Glendale and Pasadena, California. She has also been the founder and medical director of Macular, Retinal and Vitreal Associates since 2004. Holding a medical license in the state of California, she has also been board certified in ophthalmology by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Qualified Medical Evaluator in California. Equipped with a subspecialty in vitreoretinal surgeon, Dr. Recasens has remained dedicated to restoring and preserving her patients’ vision. Notably, Dr. Recasens has been recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The recipient of a Silver Medal of Honor from the University of Salvador in 1991, she has consistently been named to America’s Top Ophthalmologists for over 20 years since 2002. To this end, she attributes much of her success to her compassionate nature toward her patients, as she notes that she treats her patients as if they were her own family members. Immigrating to the United States at the age of 6, Dr. Recasens is especially proud of being a successful Hispanic woman in a field that has typically been a male-dominated industry. Looking forward, she intends to continue expanding her practice to restore and preserve our most precious gift of sight. MARTA A.
