310 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine A neuropsychologist and uniformed services veteran, Dr. Gilbert O. Sanders currently excels at his practice, Sanders Psychological Services. Specializing in substance abuse and neuropsychology, he performsneuropsychological testing for individualswhohave suffered closed head injuries. He also provides pro-bono psychological testing for prospective seminarians for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and other Catholic Diocese around the nation. Dr. Sanders also serves as a Spiritual Director accepting directees, both in person and virtually. Dr. Sanders is both a member of the Council of Representative and lifetime fellowof the American Psychological Association. Further, he is a lifetimemember of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, Reserve Officers Association, and Commissioned Officers Association of the United States Public Health Service, where he served on the board of directors from 2000 to 2005. To remain current in his field, Dr. Sanders maintains affiliation with the Oklahoma Psychological Association, National Academy of Neuropsychology andAmericanAcademyof SleepMedicine.Hehasservedaspresident-electof the Alaska Psychological Association and the Oklahoma Psychological Association. In preparation for his career, Dr. Sanders obtained an EdD in educational/ counseling psychology from the University of Tulsa in 1974, with postdoctoral studies in neuropsychology and psychopharmacology. For his lifetime contributions to the practice of psychology, he was awarded the GoldMedal for Lifetime Achievement in the Practice of Psychology from the American Psychological Foundation in 2014. Prior to his career in psychology, Dr. Sanders served in the U.S. Air Force and Army. During his 15 months in Vietnam, he was first a battery commander with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, and then personally selected by John Paul Vann, II Corps Senior Advisor, as his public affairs officer, drug program director and Air Observer. For his dedicated service, he received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Air Medal and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Star, among others. He then accepted a commission as an officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, retiring as a Captain. His last assignment was as the Western Region Mental Health Advisor with the Division of Immigration Health Services. GILBERT O.
