313 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HEALTH AND WELLNESS At the inception of her career in the early 2000s, Kasey WalkerLance served as an intern for the Michigan State University Safe Place Domestic Violence Program, the Lansing Area AIDS Network, the White Hills Health Care Center and Heartland Hospice. After receiving an MSW in organization and community practice from Michigan State University in 2007, Ms. Walker-Lance began serving Heartland Hospice as an officer manager for three years, followed by an appointment as a social worker for Grace Hospice from 2010 to 2015. Delving into her interest in palliative care in light of the positive experiences she cultivated during her prior internships, Ms. Walker-Lance joined the Sparrow Health System in 2015. She first served as a palliative care social worker lead for four years while concurrently serving as the interim palliative care supervisor between 2018 and 2019. From 2019 to 2021, she was the palliative care supervisor. As the years progressed, Ms. Walker-Lance also served the Sparrow Health System as the interim director of hospice and palliative care until becoming the full-time director in 2021, a position she still holds today. Furthermore, she has been a member of Sparrow Health System’s diversity, equity and inclusion steering committee, ethics committee and executive subcommittee. Ms. Walker-Lance has been certified in gerontology through Michigan State University and was named a Hartford PracticumPartnership Fellow. As a testament to her success, she was a graduate of the Women in Leadership Conference through Sparrow Health System in 2019. In accounting for her success, she credits the influence of her many mentors, as well as her sense of patience and perseverance. Among the many highlights of her career, Ms. Walker-Lance is especially proud of expanding the palliative care program at Sparrow Health System, wherein she helped turn hospice and palliative care into a full-service medical line within the health system. Looking forward, she would like to build a new hospice center and progress further in her career.
