In addition to his primary responsibilities, he also offers his services as an independent contractor. Prior to beginning his vocational journey, Dr. Zimmerman pursued a formal education at GMI Engineering & Management Institute (now Kettering University), where he earned a BSME in 1984. He subsequently earned an MD from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1990, and he later completed residencies at Roanoke Memorial Hospitals in Virginia between 1990 and 1992 and the University of Mississippi Medical Center between 1992 and 1996. In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Zimmerman is a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology. Adjacent to his primary vocation, Dr. Zimmerman is well regarded for his dedication to civic advocacy. To wit, he has participated with Leadership Sandy Springs since 2021, and he has remained an active member of the American Medical Association, the Radiological Society of North America, the Knights of Columbus and Phi Gamma Delta. He has also been recognized for his creative output, having contributed his own research to a number of articles published in medical journals. Dr. Zimmerman finds fulfillment in being a well-rounded and hardworking individual. He attributes much of his own success to his discipline and dedication to helping others. In light of his many accomplishments, he is especially proud to have built a myriad of longlasting relationships with fellow physicians in the field and to have commenced his own practice. In the near future, Dr. Zimmerman looks forward to continuing his work and becoming more involved in his community. Since 1996, Dr. James R. Zimmerman has excelled as a diagnostic radiologist, having originally began his career in the field with Upson Regional Medical Center. Since then, he has worked with numerous hospitals and organizations, including the South Fulton Medical Center from 1997 to 2001 and Georgia Imaging Associates from 2008 to 2013.
