LEFEBER JR., MD, FACP Dr. Edward J. Lefeber Jr. most recently served as a consultant for the National Institute of Medicine in Geriatrics and Internal Medicine from 2013 until retiring in 2015. A general internist, he excelled in physician-related roles with the University of Texas Health Science Center, University Hospital in San Antonio, Phoenix and Temple VA Medical Centers, Casa Blanca Medical Group, William Beaumont Army Medical Center and 403rd Combat Support Hospital, USAR, Phoenix and Saudi Arabia, among others. He was commanding officer of the 403rd CSH in the Persian Gulf War in 1991. He acquired an MD in 1966 from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, was certified in internal medicine and geriatric medicine, and taught as an assistant professor. In 1994, he was named a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Lefeber completed the global medicine course at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research for a 1968 combat tour of Vietnam, serving as general surgeon and preventive medicine officer. He received the 2013 Award for Excellence from the National Institute of Medicine and was named Top Physician by Consumer’s Research Council from 2003 to 2013. He has been awarded several military decorations. Since 2014, Sherri Ann Mecum has excelled as the owner and executive director of New Beginnings Wellness Center, Inc., and New Beginnings Group Practice. Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the wellness center is an employee-focused and clientcentered behavioral clinic that offers quality mental health and dual diagnosis services ranging from therapeutic mentoring and outpatient therapy to medication management. It was voted the Best Behavioral Clinic by the Worcester Award Program six years in a row. Ms. Mecum received a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Anna Maria College in 2007 and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in counseling psychology from Assumption University in 2009. She was licensed as a mental health counselor in 2011. Ms. Mecum is additionally certified in counseling for children and adolescents, and her clinic is licensed by The Joint Commission, as well as the Department of Public Health. Looking forward, she intends to establish a free center titled Heart2Heart, which will target adolescents who do not have access to adequate resources.
