The Partnership for Southern Equity is an organization with a mission to advance racial equity and inclusion throughout the Southern United States. In his dual roles, Mr. Smith is the primary liaison for the organization’s board of directors and has represented it on a national scale at conferences. Earlier in his career, Mr. Smith served as a public policy manager for Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc., and the director of partnerships for equitable development at the Emory University Center for Community Partnerships. Drawing upon a BS in urban studies fromMorehouse College and MS in urban policy and analysis from The New School, Mr. Smith exhibits expertise in advocating for national policy innovations in relation to nonprofit services. For his success, he received the 2007 Affordable Housing Champion Award, the 2014 Man of Influence Award, the 2019 Groundbreaker Award, and the 2022 Racial Equality Award. He was also profiled in Grist Magazine in 2018 and was honored in 500 Most Powerful Atlantans by Atlanta Magazine in 2019 and 2020. Van Wright excels as the founder and executive director of H.O.P.E.E. House, Inc. Established in 2007, H.O.P.E.E. House provides transitional living and counseling services to women who are recovering from addiction. As founder and executive director, Ms. Van Wright oversees daily operations, which also include accompanying women in their errands, receiving residents from inpatient facilities, and acclimating residents to the house rules and guidelines. Likewise, Ms. Van Wright is an Evangelist and administrative assistant with the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Holding a BS in psychology, cum laude, from Kaplan University, Ms. Van Wright commenced her career in the early 1970s, where she served Trenton Psychiatric Hospital in leadership roles for 28 years. During this time, she also delved into substance abuse counseling and attended formal training at St. Francis Hospital. Subsequently, she became an outreach advocate counselor for A Woman’s Place for three years and earned certification through the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
