330 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine HOSPITALITY AND LEISURE Since 1956, Jon Kermit Fredland has cultivated a successful and fulfilling career as a mountaineer. To date, he has climbed to the peaks of just over 3,000 mountains. On average, he climbs 60 to 70 mountains each year, collecting rocks and observing wildlife as he reaches locations that are seldom visited by humankind. In addition to his primary endeavors, he is the owner of Fredland Jewelers, a shop in which he buys and sells valuable gemstones, many of which he often finds during his outdoor excursions. Furthermore, Mr. Fredland is a practiced numismatist. Mr. Fredland discovered his interest as an outdoorsman at an early age, having grown up in the Pacific Palisades, a neighborhood located close to the Santa Monica Mountains in California. Shortly after turning 70 years old, he ascended his 3,000th mountain, Idaho’s Trinity Mountain. Among the numerous peaks he has conquered, Mr. Fredland is especially proud to have climbed Mount Orizaba and Picacho del Diablo, the latter of which may be alternatively referred to as Cerro de la Encantada, meaning “Hill of the Enchanted” or “Hill of the Bewitched.” Over the course of his vocational journey, Mr. Fredland pursued a formal education at Weber State College, where he earned an associate degree in 1973. As part of his dedication to the field, he remains affiliated with the Gemological Institute of America, Inc., and the American Numismatic Association, and he regularly volunteers with the Sierra Club. In light of his many accomplishments, Mr. Fredland is most proud to have become an Eagle Scout at the age of 13. To wit, he attributes much of his success to his instincts as a survivalist, as well as a modicum of luck. In the near future, Mr. Fredland looks forward to scaling Mount Evans and Pikes Peak, two of the most prominent fourteeners in the state of Colorado, with his friends.
