415 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine TECHNOLOGY Since 2019, Darel Ray Phillips Jr. has excelled as a senior virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) instructor for the Science Applications International Corporation (more commonly known as SAIC). First choosing the field of information technology to pursue as a career path, Mr. Phillips desired to enter his profession in light of his passion for the mechanisms of signals, how they worked together, and how data could be encapsulated and sent via radio frequencies for dissemination. Over the course of his career, Mr. Phillips has received a myriad of certifications, including a CompTIA Security+ certification from the Computer Technology Industry Association. Earlier in his career, he served active duty in the United States military between 2003 and 2013, during which time he also received training in VDI. During his tenure in the armed forces, he cultivated a thorough understanding of the environment that the United States government promoted for soldiers in protecting the nation’s borders. To note, he emphasizes that a highlight of his career has been being providing critical information to locating high-value targets while on active duty. Notably, he was one of only two individuals at Fort Gordon who were performing this unique task. As a testament to his success in the armed forces, Mr. Phillips received numerous military awards and decorations during his deployments overseas. Looking toward the future, Mr. Phillips intends to advance further in his career and eventually work directly for the United States Department of Homeland Security. He recently received a bachelor’s degree in homeland security, with a focus on emergency management, from the University of Arizona in June 2022.
