A prior action officer for the evacuation of Cambodia, Mr. Meinhardt is noteworthy for writing the initial plan for the evacuation in Phnom Penh. Likewise, he was in the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV), liaised to the Vietnamese General Staff and, previously, served in the United States Navy and United States Navy Reserve. He retired at the rank of lieutenant colonel. During the course of his military service, Mr. Meinhardt was twice stationed in France, as well as twice in England and in Berlin, Germany. He also spent one year serving in Vietnam, which he cites as a wondrous experience. Among the myriad of highlights in his career, Mr. Meinhardt is especially proud of his development of the Longbow, which is a type of small ballistic missile. He emphasizes that he believes his invention partially influenced the government of Russia to build large quantities of weapons in light of their fear of the Longbow, which former President Ronald Reagan leveraged to coordinate defense against the Communist regime. To prepare for his career, Mr. Meinhardt completed coursework at the Air Command and Staff College and the Naval Academy Preparatory School. He subsequently earned a bachelor’s degree in general engineering from the United States Air Force Academy in 1960 and an MBA from the University of California Los Angeles in 1975. Looking toward the future, Mr. Meinhardt intends to write and publish an autobiography, which is tentatively titled “My Incredible Life.” E quipped with over 30 years of expertise in military operations, Florian Philip Meinhardt served in the United States Air Force from 1956 until retiring in 1986.
