Rotanz has prospered as the chief executive officer of Rotanz and Associates, a consultancy consisting of subject matter experts and specialized firms that deliver expedient services to give government agencies, businesses and nonprofit organizations the ability to advance sales and services, survivability, and to increase their bottom line. Dr. Rotanz initially provided superior service in emergency management as a captain and deputy commissioner with the Fire Department of New York City and Office of Emergency Management from 1979 to 2002. Since 1971, he has excelled as a volunteer firefighter with the Setauket Fire Department. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Empire State College and continued his education with a master’s degree in protection management from the City University of New York-John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 1998 and, later, a PhD in policy science in emergency management from Walden University in Minneapolis in 2020. From 2002 to 2006, Dr. Rotanz served as commissioner in the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management and then as a special advisor to the provost at Adelphi University from 2006 to 2008. From 2008 to 2014, he excelled as executive director with the Applied Science Foundation for Homeland Security in Bethpage, New York. He has been advisor and chief operations officer of the Seaway Family of Companies in Titusville, Florida, since 2011. Dr. Rotanz attributes his success to discipline and desire to work, looking at things and taking on challenges. He considers his most notable achievement was surviving the attack on the World Trade Center of 2001 as Deputy Commissioner with the FDNY/NYCOEM, establishing the command post of WTC 1 and rebuilding the emergency operations center at Pier 92 and managing it for six months after the attack.
