159 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENERGY, ENGINEERING AND MANUFACTURING Having accrued over 45 years of experience, L. Alan Shookman is a proven leader in the field of industrial hygiene. Since 2013, he has operated as an environmental health science specialist at HydroGear LLC, where he specializes in mechanical power press safety and training his colleagues in industrial hygiene. Furthermore, he acts as a laser safety officer, primarily dealing with the manufacturing process of the company’s class four lasers. An instrumental member of the team, Mr. Shookman receives and investigates incident reports, audits safety programs, and monitors a number of other staff safety procedures. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Shookman served in several other positions within his profession. Some of his notable roles included working as a safety engineer for Liberty Mutual Group and a corporate industrial hygienist for the Amico Corporation. He also taught environmental safety and OSHA compliance courses for several companies in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Shookman began his career as a civil and soil engineer with the Soils Engineering Service in Decatur, Georgia. Before embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Shookman pursued a formal education, beginning with his time at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1972. He subsequently continued his studies at the University of WisconsinMilwaukee, where he completed master’s coursework in business and engineering. He later entered the University of Central Missouri, where he earned a master’s degree in industrial hygiene. In addition to his academic credentials, he is also a certified industrial hygienist (CIH) and a certified safety professional (CSP). Over the course of his career, Mr. Shookman has largely attributed his success to his innate curiosity, as well as his adaptability and skills as a communicator. While his career has been filled with many memorable moments, he is especially proud of his work at BP plc, where he monitored the industrial hygiene of Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay oil field.
