In her most recent presentation, she presented on the practice procedures of junior high instrumentalists, as well as pre-service teachers’ relationships with classroom management. Outside of her primary endeavors, Ms. Curry lends her expertise to Hillcrest Baptist Church, where she has been an orchestra member and a children’s choir volunteer. Looking toward the future, she would like to complete her dissertation for her doctoral degree. Following this accomplishment, she looks forward to completing her Kodály levels while working to continue the growth and development of the Music Department at Blue Mountain College. Ms. Curry is married to her husband, Will Curry, who is a fellow band director at Blue Mountain College. Notably, her husband is a percussionist and a guitarist. Together, they share one son, Jace. Recognizing early in life that she desired to enter the field of music, JJ Hatfield Curry hailed from a family of flute players, having been influenced by her grandfather and mother. Supported by her steadfast foundation in music in light of her family’s musical legacy, Ms. Curry was also encouraged to enter the industry by her parents, who instilled in her the desire for excellence and ability to attain success. She first received a Bachelor of Music Education from Delta State University in 2011, followed by an MM, with an emphasis in music education, from the University of Mississippi in 2020. She is currently a PhD candidate in music education at the University of Mississippi, which she intends to complete in May 2023. At the inception of her career in 2011, Ms. Curry served South Pontotoc High School as a Director of Bands. Remaining in this position for two years, she subsequently relocated to New Albany High School, where she was an Assistant Director of Bands and Director of Middle School Choral Activities until 2019. Since 2019, Ms. Curry has excelled as the Associate Director of Bands at Blue Mountain College.
