Throughout her career, she has distinguished herself by dedicating herself as a clinician, academic researcher and publisher, program developer and international consultant. Dr. Martin notably served as the captain of the Department of Health and Human Services with the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps from 1990 to 2006. Dr. Martin’s exemplary performance in the field was born of her academic journey. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in history and political science and a master’s degree in psychiatric social work, she has also earned a PhD in social work. To commemorate her accomplishments in the field, she has been honored with several accolades, including the 2001 Social Worker of the Year Award from the Social Work Section of the American Public Health Association. Dr. Martin is also proud to have earned the Top Alumni Award from the University of Chicago in 2022. Having accrued over 30 years of experience, Lori M. McCarter has cultivated a career of excellence as an addiction counselor. In 2021, she took on the role of program director at Stepping Stone to Recovery, a rehabilitation facility located in Louisville, Tennessee, that assists those struggling with drug addiction and alcoholism. She originally began her career with the center in 1989. Adjacent to her primary duties at the center, she has also operated as the owner of L&M Counseling since 2018. Prior to embarking on her vocational journey, Ms. McCarter pursued a formal education at the Lubbock School of Nursing, where she earned a degree in nursing in 1980. In addition to her academic credentials, she has also held an addiction counselor license since 1992. Ms. McCarter maintains membership with several industryrelated organizations, including the East Tennessee Association for Addiction Professionals, where she served as president in 2014. The organization honored her accomplishments by presenting her with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016. Looking toward the future, Ms. McCarter hopes to continue working for as long as she is able before easing into retirement. LORI M. MCCARTER
