Prior to beginning her career, Ms. Helton pursued a formal education at Indiana University Southeast, studying there from 1996 until she earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 2003. In light of her fulfilling career, Ms. Helton attributes much of her success to the influence of her mentors, including her first boss, who taught her many lessons about her industry. In accounting for her achievements, she is especially proud to have changed the work culture at Fairmount Park, implementing a more open communications system that has allowed work to flow much smoother. In the coming years, Ms. Helton hopes to continue growing and expanding her company, including the completion of a new casino on their property. With over two decades of experience to her credit, Melissa G. Helton has excelled in the field of horse racing and the casino industry. Specializing in business operations and finance, she has served as the president and general manager of FanDuel Sportsbook & Horse Racing, which has operated out of Fairmount Park in Collinsville, Illinois, since 2020. Prior to her current appointment, Ms. Helton held the position of senior vice president of finance at del Lago Resort & Casino in Waterloo, New York, from 2018 to 2020. Ms. Helton also worked as the director of finance operations for Centaur Gaming at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino from 2015 to 2018. She originally joined the team at Centaur Gaming in 2013, operating as the senior manager of finance and accounting at Hoosier Park Racing & Casino until 2015. Ms. Helton previously worked as a controller for Arizona Biltmore, Apache Gold Casino Resort, and Tropicana – Belle of Baton Rouge.
