Dr. Bolger also holds two honorary degrees and completed a fellowship in her field in 1973. In addition to her artistic acumen, Dr. Bolger is also well regarded for her creative output, having authored, co-authored and edited several books, including “American Impressionism and Realism: The Paintings of Modern Life, 18851915” in 1994, among others. To commemorate her accomplishments, Dr. Bolger has been honored with a plethora of awards, such as a Leadership in Advocacy Award from The Art of Caring in 2015 and a Medal of Honor from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2015. Attributing much of her success to her education and selfless attitude, Dr. Bolger is equally proud of all her experiences. In the coming years, she hopes to complete her essay “Modern Art and Decoration in America,” which will explore the works of Matisse and Picasso. With nearly five decades of experience to her credit, Dr. Doreen Bolger has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of art history. Specializing as a curator of paintings and sculptures, she previously served as the director of The Baltimore Museum of Art from 1998 until her retirement in 2015. Though she has retired from the position, she continues to operate as a consultant for arts and nonprofit management in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to retiring, Dr. Bolger held many other positions in her field, working as a director at the Museum of Art at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1994 to 1998 and as a curator at the Amon Carter Museum from 1989 to 1994 and the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1982 to 1989. Dr. Bolger originally began her career in the art industry in 1973, serving as a field representative for the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts. As part of her vocational journey, she also pursued a formal education, earning a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, at Bucknell University in 1971 and a Master of Arts at the University of Delaware in 1973.
