To remain abreast of developments in her everevolving field, Ms. Barnes maintains an active affiliation with the Virginia School Counselor Association and the National Education Association. Moreover, she dedicates herself to her local community in her spare time, having volunteered herself to the homeless population and creating self-care packages for their perusal. Little Creek Elementary School further collaborated with a local church, where the students’ parents can purchase holiday gifts at discounted prices. Ms. Barnes further provides holiday gift packages for children and families in need. Attributing much of her success to her parents’ support and encouragement, as well as her abiding Christian faith, Ms. Barnes intends to continue working in her present role in the forthcoming future. She emphasizes that her main objective has always been to help students thrive as they ascend from adolescence to adulthood. Latisha E. Barnes derived inspiration from her parents, who both encouraged her to pursue higher education and enter the field of academia. First receiving a Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies from Norfolk State University in 2000, she continued her edification at the university and earned an MEd in urban education in 2003. After accruing years of experience in the industry, she subsequently attended Regent University and obtained an MEd in educational leadership in 2019. At the inception of her career, Ms. Barnes served as an educator for Norfolk Public Schools beginning in 2001. She served as a teacher for Richard Bowling Elementary School between 2001 and 2009 and for Sherwood Forest Elementary School between 2009 and 2015. Since 2015, she has excelled as an elementary school counselor at Little Creek Elementary School. In her role as a counselor, she is responsible for several activities, including individualized and group counseling, mediation services for students, and coordinating with school administration.
