During his tenure with the UN, he excelled in research and development, project management, human resource management, strategic planning and execution, team building, leadership and administration. Though now retired, Dr. Wondim remains affiliated with several organizations. Notably, he maintains membership with the National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAAHR), the global and Jacksonville, Florida, chapters of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM and SHRMJAX), and the Xi Delta chapter Capella University of the Delta Mu Delta International Honor Society in Business. Before embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Wondim pursued a formal education at Haile Selassie I University (later Addis Ababa University) in Ethiopia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics in 1980. After beginning his professional endeavors, he continued his studies at his alma mater and later received a master’s degree in demography in 1990. Dr. Wondim concluded his academic career at Capella University, achieving a Doctor of Business Administration in human resource management in 2021. Well-regarded for his accomplishments, Dr. Wondim was recognized with a Letter of Appreciation from the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the occasion of his retirement. He has traveled to 18 countries on four continents on official and private businesses. In light of his rewarding career, he has attributed much of his success to his parents, who laid a strong foundation for him and instilled in him their values of community, harmony and hard work with integrity during his formative years. Dr. Wondim is happily married and blessed with four successful children. Presently, he is writing his autobiography and is looking forward to publishing it in the near future. Dr. Assefa Belay Wondim has cultivated a fulfilling career in intergovernmental socio-economic and peace and security affairs with over three decades of professional experience. Prior to retiring in 2015, he worked in different capacities for the United Nations in Africa.
