Ms. Marshall was inspired to create a new bedpan after witnessing patients with horrific injuries to the buttock area, especially older patients. Ms. Marshall developed Ouipan®, which combines ergonomic design, IoMT sensors, caregiver alerts, a biodegradable bag and data analytics capabilities to optimize outcomes for patients, health care providers and insurance payers. Ms. Marshall holds two domestic patents and five international patents for Ouipan® and continues to work on research and development of additional medical devices. She cites her ongoing frustration with the apathy and inflexibility that is prevalent throughout the medical industry as major drivers in her pivot to the MedTech industry. Ms. Marshall is originally from the Bahamas and is a graduate of Miami International University, holding a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in film. She has been presented with numerous awards in recognition of her accomplishments as an entrepreneur, innovator and health care professional. In 2019, she was named an ICABA Woman of Impact and a Top 100 Registry Woman of the Year, and in 2015, she was honored by the National Association of Professional Women. In 2021, Neowe Research and Development was included in the Pepperdine University Graziadio Business School’s annual list of Most Fundable Companies. Ms. Marshall is proud to have risen to the top in a traditionally male-dominated field and attributes her success to her tenacity, determination and future-focused attitude. She remains motivated to grow in the medical device industry with the knowledge that there are many more patients who could benefit from her work. She hopes to become a role model and trailblazer for youth from underserved communities to study science and excel in STEM fields, especially medical research.
