In the formative stages of his life, Dr. Sarkos initially developed an aptitude for firefighting and had joined the rescue squad at the age of 16. While cultivating experience in this position, he focused his attention on medicine and, subsequently, attended LaSalle University. He earned a BA in biology in 1997, followed by an MS in biomedical science and a DO from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1999 and 2003, respectively. Dr. Sarkos went on to complete an internship, general surgery residency and orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey by 2009. Thereafter, he completed a fellowship in hand, wrist and microvascular surgery at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Now board certified as an orthopedic hand surgeon, Dr. Sarkos specializes in hand and wrist surgery, carpel tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, scaphoid fractures of the wrist and distal radial fractures, among other injuries. Notably, Dr. Sarkos has lent his expertise to several medical publications, having written a book chapter in “Arthritis of the Hand and Upper Extremity: A Master Skills Publication” and presented posters regarding reconstruction of the proximal interphalangeal collateral ligament and the surgical treatment of a segmental tibia fracture. For his success in the field, Dr. Sarkos has won a myriad of accolades, including the Congressional Citation for Valor in 1993 and 2017, Gloucester County Fire Chief’s Association Unit Citation Award in 2017, New Jersey Top Doc Award in 2017 and 2018, Best of the Best Award from the Daily Journal in 2017 and SJ Biz’s Best of Health Care in 2019, among many others. In the future, Dr. Sarkos would like to expand the growth of his career and continue spending time with his family. Holding several medical appointments, Dr. Peter A. Sarkos has excelled as an orthopedic hand and microvascular surgeon at Premier Orthopedic Associates of Southern New Jersey since 2010 and an assistant orthopedic residency program director at Inspira Health Network since 2012, as well as an attending PETER A.
