Much of his work in the field pertained to teaching and researching soil chemistry and mineralogy. Dr. Roth became a professor after completing postdoctoral coursework at the university and being offered a formal position within his department, to which he gladly agreed. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Dr. Roth pursued his own education, beginning with his time at the University of Missouri, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agricultural chemistry and a master’s degree in soils. He subsequently continued his studies at the University of Wisconsin and achieved a PhD. He has published over 50 publications pertaining to his research in the field of agronomy. Along with his professional career, Dr. Roth has remained active in his volunteer efforts, serving as chair of the State Vision Services Committee of the Lions Club in Indiana. This committee has been responsible for vision screening over 65,000 Indiana children this year. Dr. Roth was largely influenced to pursue a career as an educator by his father, who previously served with the research staff and taught agriculture classes at the University of Missouri. In his retirement, Dr. Roth has taken to woodworking in addition to regularly volunteering at his local United Methodist Church. In light of his fulfilling career, he largely attributes his success to his outward focus and desire to constantly move forward. To this end, Dr. Roth is especially proud to have made a lasting impact on the lives of many of his former students. B olstered by over four decades of professional experience, Dr. Charles Barron Roth has cultivated a career of excellence as a collegiate educator. Specializing in agricultural studies, he served as a professor of agronomy at Purdue University from 1968 to 2001.
