Prior to commencing her most recent appointment, Ms. Jordan served in private practice for approximately 10 years and was a prosecutor and head of legal services for the Colville Tribe for two years. Before entering the legal industry, she was a high school teacher for a total of 17 years, serving 13 years as a substitute teacher and four years as a full-time teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Idaho State University and a JD from the University of Idaho. Outside of her legal endeavors, Ms. Jordan has also been an adjunct and visiting professor at the University of Idaho College of Law, where she taught courses in federal Indian law and family relations. Notably, she developed a course, titled “Family Relations in Indian Countries,” for the university. In light of her exceptional undertakings, Ms. Jordan has been honored with numerous accolades, such as the Small Firm of the Year Award from the Spokane County Bar Association. She also received an honor from a Spokane-based charitable organization for her esteemed work with neglected and abused children during the 1990s. Looking toward the future, Ms. Jordan intends to ease into a well-deserved retirement. Married to her husband for 50 years, she has two children and one grandchild. Impressively, both of Ms. Jordan’s children are excellent educators in their own right. In her spare time, she enjoys baking cupcakes for friends and family. A recognized figure in the legal industry, Cynthia A. Jordan has excelled as a chief judge for seven different Native American tribes across the United States. Serving as chief judge for the Coeur d’Alene Tribe of Indians in Plummer, Idaho, since 2021, she previously served in the same position for the Kalispel Tribe, the Spokane Tribe and the Colville Tribe, among others.
