130 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION With over a decade of professional experience to his credit, James C. Sharp is a proven expert in the field of education. Specializing in music education, he has served as the director of instrumental music at Summit High School in Fontana, California, since 2014. In this position, he oversees the school’s marching, jazz and concert bands, preparatory and advanced orchestras, wind ensemble, and winter guard and drumline. Outside of his teaching duties, Mr. Sharp has been playing trumpet professionally since he was 19 years old. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Sharp pursued a formal education. After earning two associate degrees in 1998 and 2004, he attended the University of California Berkeley, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in music, trumpet performance and music composition in 2008. He subsequently achieved a master’s degree in music and music composition at the University of Redlands in 2011 and a second master’s degree in education at the National University in 2020. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Sharp holds a teaching certificate as a secondary teacher for grades six through 12. While he was interested in teaching at the college level after earning his first master’s degree, Mr. Sharp instead took on a full-time position at Summit High School, following the departure of the former band director. He had previously worked with the school as a long-term substitute teacher for several weeks, and he is proud to have remained with the school for over eight years. As part of his dedication to his profession, Mr. Sharp remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the San Bernardino Music Educators Association, California Music Educators Association and National Association for Music Education. Having traveled with many of his student music groups to perform throughout the United States, he is especially proud of his advanced orchestra’s performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City. In the coming years, Mr. Sharp hopes to return to school and earn a doctoral degree while also further developing Summit High School’s music program. Millennium Magazine Featured Listee JAMES C.
