184 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS Caitlin E. Horton recently began cultivating her professional career in 2021 as a winemaker at Horton Vineyards, her family’s business located in Gordonsville, Virginia. The company was initially founded in 1989 by her grandfather, a consummate professional and dedicated wine lover who began his business as a small venture in his basement. Ms. Horton’s grandfather became well-known for his unique growing and harvesting methods, which involved introducing many new grapes into the state’s naturally humid environment, including Tannat, Albariño and Petit Manseng grapes. Well regarded for her practiced experience in the field and the success of the business, Ms. Horton has been featured in several notable publications, including The Washington Post, Virginia Living and Garden & Gun. Prior to beginning her vocational journey, she pursued a formal education, earning a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice at Keiser University in 2020. After joining her family’s business, Ms. Horton subsequently earned a certificate in winemaking at Cornell University in 2022. Over the course of her career, Ms. Horton has largely attributed her success to going against trends and the status quo in her industry, similarly to how her grandparents operated when they first began the business. In light of her many achievements, she is especially proud of her team and how they handle pressure, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite their small size, they have continued to accrue highly profitable sales and foster a healthy and successful harvest. In the coming years, Ms. Horton hopes to continue building upon the legacy of her grandparents and expanding their business by producing more high-quality wines. CAITLIN E.
