Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Smith excelled as a lead systems analyst/engineer for the Bureau of Land Management’s National Operations Center from 2012 to 2017. Mr. Smith honorably served in the United States Air Force as a combat videographer from 1997 to 2006. He also supported the U.S. Army Medical Activity in Bavaria, Germany, in multiple capacities as the lead network and systems administrator, information assurance manager, and HIPAA security officer from 2006 to 2011. Mr. Smith also pursued an education at Capella University, earning an undergraduate degree in information technology and a graduate degree in public administration. In addition to his academic credentials, he holds numerous information technology and industry certifications, including as a Project Management Institute’s Project Management Professional (PMP), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), AXELOS Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation and Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional. Ever committed to public and professional service, Mr. Smith maintains membership with the American Society for Public Administration, Armed Forces Communication and Electronics Association International, and Society for Human Resource Management. He can otherwise often be found engaging in his longtime hobby as a semiprofessional bass player. He attributes much of his success to the support of his loving family, as well as his balance of empathy, technical ability and desire to maximize utility.
