Alongside his primary responsibilities as a physician, Dr. Stoeckeler has conducted medical research and pursued training in electron microscopy. He co-authored several metabolismrelated articles, one of which was published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1985, titled “Familial Pyrimidinemia and Pyrimidinuria Associated with Severe 5 Flourouracil Toxicity.” He is also the author of an article, titled “Conjugated Versus Free Acidic Metabolites of Catecholamines in Random Urine Samples: Significance for Diagnosis of Neuroblastoma.” Dr. Stoeckeler is now semi-retired and currently practices emergency medicine as locum tenens with CompHealth and Acute Care Inc. To remain abreast of trends in his industry, he maintains membership with the American Academy of Family Practice and the American Board of Family Medicine. Upon reflection, Dr. Stoeckeler credits much of his motivation and inspiration to his colleague and mentor, Dr. Neal Melby, a general surgeon at the Baldwin Area Medical Center. Dr. Stoeckeler has contributed nearly three years of community service to Armed Forces Professional Entertainment Overseas. Participating in this program, he traveled extensively as a civilian and Department of Defense (DOD) contractor from 1978 to 1996, producing and performing in USO and Morale Welfare and Recreation musical tours sponsored by the DOD. Some of the operations supported included Desert Storm, Operation Deny Flight, Operation Safe Haven, Operation Uphold Democracy and Operation Joint Endeavor. This experience provided great insight and sparked meaningful conversations with the many veterans he cared for in his medical practice. Happily married with two sons and two grandchildren, Dr. Stoeckeler is grateful for the support of his family. He is also thankful for the individuals who participated in the USO tours with which he was involved. Dr. Joel S. Stoeckeler has excelled through his medical practice in Baldwin, Wisconsin, for 26 years, through which he offers a full spectrum of family medicine, including obstetrics, gastroenterology, emergency room coverage and hospitalist coverage totaling 80,000 hours, and general surgical assists.
