47 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Exemplifying aptitude in writing, Stephen Avery is a distinguished author and playwright who has devoted himself fully to writing since 1989. Prior to writing independently, he was a freelance reporter for The Sentinel-Record and New Era between 1970 and 1973. Following this tenure, he served in the United States Navy for four years. Since establishing himself as an independent writer, Mr. Avery has written such plays as “Burning Bridges,” “Insidious,” “Because” and “Hungry: Three Plays.” He also served as the production partner of two documentaries, “Viva la Causa” through the Southern Poverty Law Center and “Ever Again” through Moriah Films. Mr. Avery has lent his time and support to numerous nonprofit organizations and charities. He has served as a member of the President’s Council of the World Jewish Congress and the scholarship committee of the American Indian Education Fund since 2005 and a member of AmeriCares, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the International Rescue Committee since 2004. Furthermore, Mr. Avery has served as a member of the Founders Circle of the Vada Sheid Community Development Center at Arkansas State University and the National Campaign for Tolerance since 2002, as well as a member of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum since 2001. In addition to these roles, he has been a founding sponsor of the Statue of Liberty Museum of Ellis Island since 2018 and the National Museum of American Jewish History since 2009, among others. Mr. Avery is affiliated with the Academy of American Poets and the American Film Institute. He is recognized as a national patron of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts. In light of his outstanding achievements, he has been honored on several occasions. In 2018, he was displayed on the Wall of Honor of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. He previously earned the Medallion of Commitment from the World Jewish Congress in 2013 and the Gateway Award from Save Ellis Island Inc., in 2012. Moreover, he received Congressional Orders of Merit in 2006 and 2007 and was inducted into the Republican Presidential Honor Roll of the National Republican Congressional Committee in 2005.
