195 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ENTREPRENEURS Eric M. Newman has served the J.C. Newman Cigar Company in Tampa, Florida, since 1972. After several years of working for the organization, he was promoted to the rank of president in 1986, where he remains today. As head of the company, Mr. Newman is especially proud of being responsible for turning what would have been a bankrupt company into a thriving, profitable business. Notably, J.C. Newman Cigar Company was established in 1895 by past generations of Mr. Newman’s family, and out of over 40,000 cigar manufacturers developed that year, J.C. Newman Cigar Company is the last remaining manufacturer. Outside of his primary duties, Mr. Newman was a football referee for over 45 years. Prior to embarking on his current career path, Mr. Newman pursued a formal education. Receiving a Master of Business Administration from Emory University in 1972, he joined the family business the following year. Since taking over J.C. Newman Cigar Company, Mr. Newman created a charitable foundation in the Dominican Republic in 2004, through which they established a medical clinic, a nursing school and a technical school to express gratitude to those who grow tobacco for their business. A civic-minded individual, as well, Mr. Newman has served on numerous boards. A member of Rotary International since 1972, he has also been a board member of the Cigar Association of America for 50 years. Additionally, he directed his local community bank for 15 years and is a board member of AdventHealth. As a testament to his success in his industry and community, Mr. Newman earned numerous accolades from the Salvation Army and Big Brother program, as well as several Neighbor City Awards. Mr. Newman attributes much of his success to good fortune, a diligent work ethic and intelligence.
