AHLEM ARFAOUI TARTIR PRESIDENT International Organization of Local Government Staten Island, NY Drawing upon over two decades of professional experience, Dr. Ahlem Arfaoui Tartir has cultivated a career of excellence in the field of politics. Since 2016, she has served as the president of the International Organization of Local Government. The organization, headquartered in New York City, focuses on supporting and increasing the role of local United States government institutions in foreign countries around the world, in addition to benefitting and empowering women and youth by promoting their capabilities in government decisionmaking. As president of the organization, Dr. Arfaoui oversees all daily operations, works alongside United Nations leaders, and specializes in accountability and human rights. Adjacent to her primary duties, Dr. Arfaoui remains active as a trainer at the Center for Training and Supporting Decentralization in the Ministry of the Interior in her homeland of Tunisia. Prior to immigrating to the United States in 2016, she held the honorable position of mayor of the municipality of Beja, Tunisia, from 2014 to 2017. During this time, she was a delegate for North Beja, Tunisia. Dr. Arfaoui also gained valuable experience in international relations working as an executive member of the International Federation of Aging and as a diplomatic protocol and etiquette consultant. Well-regarded for her continued dedication to civic advocacy, Dr. Arfaoui regularly assists in the restoration and rebuilding of schools both in the United States and abroad, and she offers aid to Arab countries and immigrants. As part of her commitment to all her professional endeavors, she remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction and the United Nations Association of the United States of America. Before embarking on her vocational journey, Dr. Arfaoui pursued a formal education. She has earned several academic degrees, including two bachelor’s degrees from Tunisian universities. After immigrating to the United States, she earned a Master of Public Administration and a PhD in political science at the University of Kansas in 2016 and 2019, respectively. In 2021,
