Well regarded for his accomplishments in the field, Mr. Franchione has been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, including recognition as the National Coach of the Year and an Alumni Meritorious Achievement Award from his alma mater. In light of his accomplished career, Mr. Franchione attributes much of his success to his organized nature, tenacity and personality as a team player. To this end, he always ensured he and his players spent as much time as possible together to adequately work together as a team and make the most of all practice sessions and official games. He is especially proud of his ability to turn failing programs into shining winners. In the coming years, Mr. Franchione hopes to remain happy and healthy in his retirement, spend more time with his family and friends, and complete his autobiography. Having accrued more than four decades of experience, Dennis W. Franchione has cultivated a career of excellence in collegiate athletics. Well recognized as “Coach Fran” throughout his career, he specialized in developing teams and maintaining healthy relationships. Beginning his career in 1981, he served as the head football coach at several colleges, beginning with his time at Southwestern College, where he worked until 1982. He also operated at Pittsburg State University from 1985 to 1989, Southwest Texas State University between 1990 and 1991, and the University of New Mexico from 1992 to 1997. Prior to retiring, Mr. Franchione worked at the University of Alabama, Texas Christian University, Texas A&M University and Texas State University from 1998 until retiring in 2016. As part of his vocational journey, Mr. Franchione pursued a formal education at Pittsburg State University, earning a Bachelor of Secondary Education in physical education.
