In 2020, she successfully utilized her experience to design a virtual education platform to provide streamlined online education for more than 100 students across the city and county. Likewise, Dr. Simon has been revered for her unconventional teaching methodologies, in which she has adopted the use of “servicelearning” and the “flipped classroom” modalities and has been a chief governance officer for a state-designated community action program. Equally passionate about technology in itself, Dr. Simon prides herself on her reputation in her local community for promoting interconnectivity among citizens and students alike. Among the many highlights of her career, she is especially proud of witnessing her students grasp and understand subject matters in the classroom. Obtaining a formal education, Dr. Simon holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Christopher Newport University and a master’s degree in information technology from Strayer University. She went to receive a doctorate degree in religious education from the International Seminary in Florida and an additional doctorate degree in information technology from Capella University. In light of her esteemed work, Dr. Simon has received several accolades, including the TRIO Award for Excellent Academic Service for supporting post-secondary education. Dr. Simon credits much of her success to her in-depth background in the field of information technology and her experience in religious education, which has helped her develop her leadership skills and lend her expertise to local nonprofit organizations. She regularly contributes to her local St. Luke’s Baptist Church and organizations for low-income families. Looking forward, Dr. Simon intends to continue teaching information systems, allowing students to critically analyze current theories relating to culture, community and organizations. Dr. DeShea Simon is an acclaimed information technology professional and an educator who has accrued several decades of experience in her industries. For over 10 years, she has excelled as a professor of information systems at Hampton University, having previously been a technology trainer for her local public school system.
