From 1981 to 2020, she served as an educational audiologist with Broward County Public Schools, where she taught students ranging from pre-kindergarten to college level in a variety of schools as part of the exceptional student education department. Coming from a lineage of educators, Ms. Durham naturally gravitated toward a career in teaching. Though she is now retired from teaching, she is proud to have operated as the founder and president of her nonprofit organization, Empowered to Thrive, since 2021. Prior to beginning her vocational journey, Ms. Durham pursued a formal education, earning a bachelor’s degree in biology from Spelman College in 1978 and a Master of Arts in audiology and speech-language pathology from the University of Florida in 1981. To commemorate her accomplishments in the field, she received the Broward County Recognition Program Award. To this end, she attributes much of her success to the love and support of her parents. In the coming years, Ms. Durham hopes to continue having a positive impact on the lives of women through her nonprofit organization. Having accrued more than 49 years of professional experience, Robert P. Evans is a proven leader in the field of education. He currently serves as the moderator of bands at Chaminade High School, where he oversees music programs and three school bands. Prior to his current position, Mr. Evans operated as a public school administrator in the Sewanhaka Central High School District for over 30 years, managing the five high schools within the district. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Evans honorably served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. After concluding his service, he pursued a formal education, eventually earning a principal/superintendent license from Fordham University and the Manhattan School of Music in 1974. Outside of his primary vocation, Mr. Evans is also a dedicated musician, playing with the Metropolitan Opera, the “Tonight Show” and the National Symphony Orchestra. Understanding the importance of education, he felt naturally inclined to pursue a career in the field. To wit, he attributes much of his success to the inspiration of his former teachers. In the future, he hopes to retire from education and focus on his musical endeavors. ROBERT P. EVANS
