Earlier in her career, she also earned the Yellowhammer Woman of Impact award from Yellowhammer News in 2020, as well as named a “Female First” by Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, in 2018. During her formative years, Ms. Lemier-Potts desired to enter the field of finance. Although she first contemplated on a career in actuary sciences, she instead settled on the realm of accounting, having been inspired by a high school teacher. Among the many highlights of her career, she is especially gratified by her tenure with Blue Cross Blue Shield, through which she was able to mentor and support the growth of employees who worked under her tutelage. To wit, she is exceptionally proud that her leadership skills and example played a significant role in the company and her colleagues’ success. Looking forward, Ms. Lemier-Potts would like to maintain her position as a board member and continue mentoring emerging professionals. Excelling in a myriad of roles with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, Sherrie Lemier-Potts retired in 2017 after 32 years of dedication to the company. She initially joined Blue Cross Blue Shield in 1985, at which time she served as chief financial officer until 2008. Concurrently, she was the senior executive beginning in 2006, leading in this prominent position until her retirement. Alongside these efforts, Ms. Lemier-Potts served as the president of the government division of Healthcare Benefit Solutions. An alumna of the Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama, Ms. Lemier-Potts received a bachelor’s degree in accounting early on in her career. Since 2008, she has continued to serve the university’s business college as a member of the board of visitors. Likewise, she is a member of the University of Alabama’s Culverhouse student enrichment committee. Following her receipt of her bachelor’s degree, Ms. Lemier-Potts continued her education and obtained an MBA from the University of Phoenix. To attest to her resounding success in the industry, Ms. Lemier-Potts has accrued numerous accolades.
