120 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Having accrued over 30 years of experience, Dr. Ljiljana KrizanacBengez is a leader in the field of health education. Since 2014, she has served as an associate professor of health sciences and a program coordinator for health informatics in the School of Health and Professional Sciences at King University. Dr. Krizanac-Bengez has specialized in medical research, educating students, developing programs and courses, and understanding informatics. Originally from Croatia, Dr. Krizanac-Bengez began her career at the Ruđer Bošković Institute in Zagreb, operating as a teaching and research assistant from 1986 to 1992 and senior research associate between 1992 and 1993. She returned as an assistant professor from 1996 to 1999 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle. In 1999, she immigrated to the U.S. to work at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. Upon receipt of an American Heart grant in 2002, she was promoted to research assistant professor. She was promoted to associate professor in 2011 and was instrumental in creating an academic program for the Health Informatics and Information Management degree in 2012. Dr. Krizanac-Bengez earned an MD in 1985 and an MS in 1988 at the University of Zagreb. In addition to completing several postdoctoral fellowships, she earned a Doctor of Medical Science from her alma mater in 1992. She has since published 27 peer-reviewed manuscripts, several book chapters and reviews, and presented over 50 abstracts at scientific meetings. Well-regarded for her expertise, Dr. Krizanac-Bengez has been recognized with numerous commendations and academic accolades, including several American Heart Grants between 2002 and 2006. Dr. Krizanac-Bengez attributes her success to her compassion, wisdom, genuine approach, understanding nature and professionalism. She believes these factors are what granted her opportunities to thrive. She is also thankful for her mentors who have guided her. In the future, she hopes to reach a higher leadership position, where she will be able to better serve her community.
