He contributed chapters to three endodontic textbooks and authored and/or coauthored numerous professional articles over the course of his career. To commemorate his achievements, Dr. Roane was honored with an Outstanding Presenter Award for the presentation of his master research during the Montreal AAE meeting of 1971. Attributing his success to his problemsolving skills, he gravitated toward education early in his career. His most prestigious accomplishment was the “Balanced Force Concept,” a revolutionary change in endodontic technique and a modification of instrument design that solved numerous technical issues of the time. In the coming years, Dr. Roane looks forward to maintaining his homestead and enjoying time with his family. Boasting nearly five decades of professional experience, Dr. James B. Roane has cultivated a fulfilling career in the fields of education and dentistry. Specializing in endodontics, he served as the founding chairman of endodontics for the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry from 1974 until his retirement in 2004. Today, he is a professor emeritus at the college. In addition to his primary duties as an educator, he established a private practice, Endodontic Practice Associates, in Norman, Oklahoma, where he and his colleagues practiced their specialty. Dr. Roane began his vocational journey by earning a Bachelor of Science at the University of Oklahoma. Next, he received a Doctor of Dental Surgery at the Baylor University College of Dentistry in 1965 (presently known as the Texas A&M School of Dentistry). While serving in the United States Air Force, he completed his residency in endodontics with a Master of Science at The Ohio State University in 1971. Dr. Roane is a member of the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, and a fellow of the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
