To give back to the legal community, he is a past chairman of the Mississippi Tax Institute and past president of the Hinds County Bar Association, as well as the chairman of the taxation and specialization committees of the Mississippi State Bar. Civically involved as well, Mr. Barnes previously served as a sergeant-at-arms and director of his local Rotary Club, and he is a twice-named Paul Harris fellow of Rotary International. He also demonstrated leadership roles in the Presbyterian Church and Salvation Army, among other organizations, and maintains affiliation with the Mississippi Bar Association. Crediting his success to his diligent work ethic and passion for the field, Mr. Barnes has three children and four grandchildren. He has been married to his wife, Sandra, for over 50 years. Since the mid-1990s, Harris H. “Trip” Barnes III has excelled as the president of Barnes, Bailey & Janoush, P.A. Located in Flowood, Mississippi, the esteemed firm is a boutique law practice that specializes in estate planning, probate, corporate and business planning, purchasing and selling of various businesses, trust and estate litigation, as well as IRS and state tax matters. Overseeing a staff of more than 10 employees, Mr. Barnes has garnered many clients across the Southern United States. Earlier in his career, he served in a general civil litigation practice for eight fruitful years. To prepare for his pronounced career, Mr. Barnes pursued a formal education at Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in liberal arts and pre-law. He also received a JD from the University of Mississippi in 1972. After several years of practice, he returned to higher education at the University of Florida Law School, completing the graduate tax program and obtaining an LLM in taxation. He has since been recognized as a fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation.
