SALOME With more than three decades of professional experience, Louis J. Salome has cultivated a fulfilling career as an award-winning journalist. For 33 years, he wrote for Cox Newspapers on politics, social issues and international affairs. For a decade, he was the editorial page editor of the Miami (Florida) News. For another 10 years, he reported from Jerusalem and London. As part of his creative endeavors, Mr. Salome authored “Violence, Veils and Bloodlines: Reporting from War Zones” in 2010 and “Thoreau, The Kid and Mr. Lou: Book Notes of a Foreign Correspondent” in 2020. Before embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Salome pursued a formal education, earning a Bachelor of Science at Holy Cross College in 1962 and a Master of Arts in American history at Boston College in 1969. He also remains active as a board member of Rain for the Sahel and Sahara and the Portsmouth-Severodvinsk Connection. In honor of his accomplishments in the field, Mr. Salome was honored with two Distinguished Service Awards for Editorial Writing from the Sigma Delta Chi Awards, presented by the Society of Professional Journalists. Accumulating over three decades of experience, Polly GH Tan is an expert in nursing. Inspired to pursue a career as a nurse after caring for her mother for many years, she earned her certification as a registered nurse in 1971. Subsequently, she served the community of Royal Oak, Michigan, for several decades. While working full-time as a nurse, she pursued her passion for music, achieving a Bachelor of Arts in music from Oakland University and currently operating as a piano teacher for adult students. Ms. Tan has also regularly been invited to play music at churches and for various special occasions. Well regarded for her dedication and practiced expertise, she has built many fruitful relationships with her patients and students. As part of her commitment to her field, she remains affiliated with the Tuesday Musicale of Detroit. She was also invited to perform in October 2022 and become a member of the Birmingham Musicale of Michigan. Having cultivated a prosperous career, she attributes much of her success to her steady work ethic and willingness to help others.
