115 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION Drawing upon several decades of professional experience, Dr. Sondra Astor Stave is a proven leader in the field of education. Prior to retiring in 1996, she served as the director of Mansfield Adult Education, which she originally joined in 1987. Located in Storrs, Connecticut, the organization is dedicated to providing high-quality educational services to students that will assist them in their long-term academic goals. Prior to this position, Dr. Stave served as a scholar-in-residence at Manchester High School in 1986, and she was an instructor at Peking University in Beijing between 1984 and 1985. Between the onset of her career in 1962 and her retirement in 1996, Dr. Stave held a number of teaching and management positions with institutions such as the Montour Joint Schools, the Milford Public Schools and the Connecticut Library Association. She was also a director for the city and region of Hartford, Connecticut, between 1979 and 1980. Among her other career accomplishments, Dr. Stave maintained a 50-year tenure as a chair of every major town board in her community. To wit, she has served as the chair of the economic development commission in Coventry, Connecticut, since 1986. Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Stave cultivated a formal education, earning a Bachelor of Science at the City College of New York in 1961. After beginning her career, she continued her studies at the University of Connecticut, where she earned a Master of Public Administration in 1977 and a PhD in 1993. In addition to her academic credentials, Dr. Stave is also a fully certified intermediate administrator. Outside of her primary vocational endeavors, Dr. Stave has maintained a healthy scholarly output throughout her career, having served as an author and editor for several titles, including the 1995 book, “Achieving Racial Balance: Case Studies in School Desegregation.” In light of her fulfilling career, she has attributes much of her success to her husband, who helped create countless opportunities for her to thrive in her field.
