330 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine TRANSPORTATION During the early stages of his life, Alfred T. Spain cultivated a strong interest in the field of aviation. Moving from San Antonio, Texas, to Louisiana, he was acquainted with a flight instructor during his high school years. After earning a private pilot’s license, Mr. Spain attended Louisiana Tech University, from which he received a Bachelor of Science in aviation and marketing in 1972. After accruing decades of professional experience, he earned an MBA from Concordia University in 1997. Additionally, Mr. Spain spent seven years with the U.S. Army, where he was the chief of flight evaluation on the East Coast, an air controller in Vietnam, and a surrogate unmanned aircraft systems squadron commander through the Department of Defense. Following his tenure in military service, Mr. Spain worked as an instructor at Louisiana Tech University. He went on to serve as a pilot with Dart & Kraft, Inc., T.L. James & Company, the Middle East Division of Oceanic Contractors/McDermott-Dubai and the Sam Thomas Company. Furthermore, Mr. Spain was the vice president of flight operations at Continental Airlines from 1984 to 1998 and the co-founder and senior vice president of operations at JetBlue Airways from 1998 to 2006. Since 2021, Mr. Spain has garnered success as a lecturer on aviation systems management and business management at the College of Business and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. In his role, he is responsible for working alongside a myriad of special committees, as well as developing courses on aviation meteorology and conducting flight training for the ROTC Flight Academy. Outside of his primary work, Mr. Spain was a member of his regional Chamber of Commerce’s aeronautical review committee, where he lent his expertise during the recovery processes following Hurricane Katrina. He has been bestowed with numerous accolades, such as being named Aircrew Member of the Year by the U.S. Civil Air Patrol in 2018 and receiving the Wright Bros Award from the Federal Aviation Administration.
