58 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine ARTS, MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT Demetrios Pappas has cultivated a career of excellence in the music industry, bolstered by 50 years of practiced expertise. For many years, he has served as a musical director, conductor and pianist at Bertam Publishing. Additionally, he has served as the musical director for Smokey Robinson, an equally accomplished musician and performer, since 2008. Under Mr. Pappas’ careful management, Mr. Robinson performed at The White House in 2015 and won the Gershwin Award in 2016. The duo of musicians recently performed at the Kennedy Honors in December 2021. Prior to his current appointment, Mr. Pappas served as the keyboardist for The Funk Brothers from 2000 to 2004. Furthermore, he was the music director for Nell Carter between 1997 and 1999. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, he pursued a formal education. Mr. Pappas completed collegiate coursework pertaining to music performance and music studies at Keene State College in 1975 and at the Berklee College of Music in 1976. As part of his ongoing dedication to his profession, he remains active as a member of the American Federation of the Musicians Local 802, a musician’s union. Coming from a lineage of musicians, with his father having performed as a drummer for many years, Mr. Pappas naturally gravitated towards a career in the music industry. To this end, he has been studying and playing music since he was a child, and he has since found a wealth of success in being able to play music on stage. Mr. Pappas attributes much of that success to his father’s guidance and his own dedicated work ethic. Among his other notable performing positions, Mr. Pappas played in the pit orchestra for the Broadway production of “Mamma Mia!” for six weeks. He was also contracted by Naxos for a three-record deal to produce jazz compositions of music from various Broadway shows. He is also proud to have worked alongside Aretha Franklin.
