Mr. Verdi originally began his career working with the Chicago Tribune in 1967, serving as a contributing sports columnist until 2009. Prior to embarking on his vocational journey, Mr. Verdi pursued a formal education, attending Lake Forest College and earning a Bachelor of Arts in English in 1967. As part of his dedication to his profession, he also remains affiliated with several pertinent organizations, including the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, the Football Writers Association of America and the Golf Writers Association of America. Furthermore, Mr. Verdi served as the president of the Professional Hockey Writers Association in 2004. Well-regarded for his professional accomplishments, Mr. Verdi has been honored with several accolades over the course of his career, including being named Sportswriter of the Year in the state of Illinois on 18 separate occasions between 1975 and 1999. Additionally, he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2016 and the Illinois Gold Hall of Fame in 2005. Mr. Verdi also received the Nicklaus Memorial Tournament Journalism Award in 2012. In accounting for his accomplishments, Mr. Verdi is especially proud to have been present for the hockey game between the United States and the Soviet Union during the 1980 Winter Olympics. The game has been renowned as the “Miracle on Ice,” with the United States defeating the defending Soviet Union gold medalists in a triumphant four-to-three win. Robert “Bob” Verdi leverages over 55 years of professional experience as a proven expert in the sports industry. Well-regarded for his contributions in the state of Illinois, he has served as the team historian for the Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey team since 2010.
