112 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine EDUCATION A foreign language specialist, Dr. Otilia Lucila Salmon-Johnson possesses over 40 years of professional experience in the field of education. For the past 34 years of her career, she has served as an associate professor at the University of North Florida, where she teaches courses for students learning English as a second language and coordinates programs for Spanish and French language studies. A linguist in her own right, Dr. Salmon also educates her students in other languages from around the world. Adjacent to her primary professional pursuits, Dr. Salmon has also offered her talents as a translator and interpreter to the World Health Organization. Prior to her current appointment, she served as an education officer in Jamaica for 10 years. Furthermore, Dr. Salmon remains affiliated with several industry-related organizations, including the Altrusa International Foundation and the Florida Association of Multicultural Educators. As part of her vocational journey, Dr. Salmon previously cultivated her own higher education. After earning a master’s degree in foreign languages and literature at the University of Veracruz in Xalapa, Mexico, she completed a fellowship program with the Organization of American States. Dr. Salmon ultimately concluded her studies at the University of Florida, where she achieved a PhD in Latin America studies in 1982. Well-regarded for her professional accomplishments, Dr. Salmon was honored with admittance to the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania for her dedication to her community. Furthermore, she was chosen as the first scholar of the Benito Juarez Scholarship Award. In accounting for her achievements, she attributes much of her success to the support of her parents and her traveling experience, which allowed her to meet many individuals and discover the need for more diverse opportunities for those living in poverty. In the coming years, Dr. Salmon hopes to write an autobiography so that she may further share her story.
