In both positions, Dr. Broadnax focuses her efforts on caring for underserved communities and mentoring future generations of minority nurse leaders. Adjacent to her primary professional duties, Dr. Broadnax has also lent her talents as a nurse co-leader for the District of Columbia Action Coalition since 2012. She also remains active as a member of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. In her other civic-minded endeavors, Dr. Broadnax maintains her position as a board member of the Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities. Before embarking on her vocational journey, Dr. Broadnax cultivated her own formal education, beginning at Winston-Salem State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1977. She subsequently continued her studies at Hampton University and achieved a Master of Science in Nursing in 1983. Dr. Broadnax concluded her academic career at George Mason University, receiving a PhD in nursing and health policy development in 1993. Well-regarded for her accomplishments in the field, Dr. Broadnax has been honored with several accolades over the course of her career, including being named the Nurse Educator of the Year by the National Black Nurses Association, Inc., in 2020. The organization also previously recognized her as a Voice of Academic Nursing. Attributing much of her success to her driven nature and her desire to deliver the highest quality health care, Dr. Broadnax is especially proud to have served as the only female charter member of Mayor Marion Barry’s health policy council for the District of Columbia. D r. Pier Angeli Broadnax leverages over five decades of professional experience as a leader in the fields of nursing and community development. Since 2010, she has excelled as the program director of nursing at the University of the District of Columbia.
