Additionally, she previously appeared as a co-editor for “Core Curriculum for Operating Room Nurses-Neurosurgery,” and she has contributed several articles to professional journals on neurosurgery. In light of her fulfilling career, Ms. Chalk largely attributes her success to her passion for helping others and the support and encouragement of her parents. Bolstered by over 40 years of professional experience, Barbara A. Chalk has cultivated a career of excellence as a medical and surgical nurse. Prior to retiring in 2000, she served at the Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Virginia, where she specialized as the clinical coordinator of the neurosurgery operating room, having originally joined the institution in 1975. Ms. Chalk previously served as the head nurse of the neurosurgery operating room at the University of Virginia Hospital from 1959 to 1975. Prior to beginning her career, Ms. Chalk earned a diploma in nursing at the House of Good Samaritan Hospital in Watertown, New York, in 1957. She subsequently began her career at the institution, serving as a staff nurse in the operating room until 1959. Over the course of her career, she had the privilege of working with the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses in several leadership positions.
