306 Millennium - A Marquis Who’s Who Magazine SOCIAL SERVICES AND NONPROFIT Since 2008, Luke Clyburn has excelled as the president, research director and director of sea operations for the Noble Odyssey Foundation. Recently celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, the Noble Odyssey Foundation holds a mission to develop maritime interests in young Americans while providing youth with opportunities to conduct research on the Great Lakes. Additionally, the Noble Odyssey Foundation released a film, “America’s Ancient IndustryCopper-The Search,” which is based upon the foundation’s research of the Great Lakes dating back 8,000 years ago. Mr. Clyburn has also served as a project director for 13 different PBS films on the Great Lakes. Mr. Clyburn is the captain of training vessels used on the Great Lakes, project director for the Great Lakes Ancient Shores Studies and first grand vice president of the International Ship Masters’ Association. In 2023, he was also elected the president of the International Ship Masters’ Association. Likewise, he has served as commanding officer and director of the Great Lakes Command division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps since 1972. Adjacent to his present career path, Mr. Clyburn serves as a real estate broker and appraiser in White Lake, Michigan, having previously been recognized as a senior account manager for Investors Mortgage Insurance Co., a regional representative for United Guaranty Residential Insurance, and an associate broker for Bateman Real Estate Corp. He commenced his career in 1964 as a chief loan officer for the First Federal Savings and Loan Association. The project director and ship captain of the documentary “Angels of the Sea” in 1982, Mr. Clyburn earned the Telly Award, Chairman’s Award, Mayor’s Cup Award and a Letter of Commendation from the secretary of the U.S. Navy. He also earned a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from the U.S. Senate, as well as the Unsung Hero Award from the Michigan House of Representatives. Among the many highlights of his career, however, Mr. Clyburn is especially proud of passing his flight examination shortly after graduating from high school.
