LINOWES PRESIDENT, FOUNDING PROFESSOR Clarewood University Reston, VA Driven by the mission statement “Build Enlightened Leaders,” Dr. Richard G. Linowes flourishes as president of Clarewood University in Reston, Virginia, following a long career as a management professor. Having specialized in the teaching and research of international business, quality management and cross-cultural relations, he served as a Kogod Outstanding Professor of Undergraduate Programs in the Kogod School of Business at American University for 33 years, from 1986 to 2019. Dr. Linowes first delved into his profession because of his desire to prevent unethical behavior in the world of business. He commenced his career in 1974 as an affiliate of the Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. in Osaka, Japan, prior to joining Arthur Andersen & Co. as a senior systems analyst for the following two years. He subsequently served the Harvard Business School as a research assistant between 1978 and 1982 and was an internal consultant with Goldman Sachs from 1983 to 1986, during which he helped plan their international expansion. Dr. Linowes was the founding professor at Clarewood University in 2016, as well as a visiting professor at Ritsumeikan University in Japan and Tel Aviv University in Israel. Likewise, he also served as an adjunct professor at New York University. A pioneering innovator in teaching, he developed experimental exercises and video programming for new approaches to management education, globalization of management in American and Japanese firms, along with strategic vigilance for international business. He has also contributed to the books “Catching Up with the Computer Revolution,” “Japanese Direct Investment in the United States” and “Emerging Trends in Japanese Business,” among others. After the presidency of former President Donald Trump, Dr. Linowes is trying to get the world to work together again. Each year, he viewed his class as a small representation of the global community, and students would frequently work together to solve problems, engineering collaborations between individuals to form future business dealings. Dr. Linowes earned a Bachelor of Arts in cybernetics from Princeton University in 1973.
